The Agony Of Defeat! Chronicling The Worst Losses Of My Favorite Teams. Plus, NFL Draft Round 1 Breakdown

A couple of weeks ago, I shared my euphoria and excitement as a fan over my favorite teams (i.e. Mets, Steelers, Celtics, Islanders and Hoyas) winning a championship. Today, it’s the complete opposite as I bring to you (Episode 127) my perspective of digesting their toughest defeats.

(4:18) A disappointing collapse in the 1996 Big East Final, among a couple of other losses, will never erase the bitter taste of losing a national championship in 1985 as Georgetown bows to Villanova.

(12:37) The Drive For Five. Losing to the Rangers in the first round back in the 90’s was bad, but you’ll be surprised as to what the roughest NY Islanders loss was for me.

(19:26) Tough defeats at the hands of the Lakers in big spots highlight this brutal stretch for the Boston Celtics.

(28:40) It gets interesting here. The Steelers suffered some inexplicable losses in the postseason, but nothing like the 1994 AFC Championship Game vs. the Chargers. I’ll explain why.

(46:02) And then…there are the Mets. Losing to the Yankees in the Subway Series? The Royals in 2015? Not even close. There are three that come to mind, with not just one, but TWO honorable mention that you won’t want to miss out on.

(59:05) Lastly, I’ll recap the top headlines of the first round of the NFL Draft. Not a lot of drama, but some surprises, especially what took place in Green Bay.

The Thrill Of Victory! A Breakdown Of Celebrating My Teams (Mets, Steelers, Celtics, Islanders and Hoyas) Biggest Wins

Going down a different sports path on Episode 123, as I share my experience of the few thrills that my teams have accomplished over the years winning a championship. Whether you’re a fan of the teams I root for, or not, I’m sure those who know what it feels like to reach the mountaintop can surely relate. On deck:

(4:28) My early memories of rooting for the Georgetown Hoyas college basketball team, as they were champions in 1984.

(10:25) The New York Islanders record setting dominance of the early 1980’s, winning four Stanley Cups along the way.

(17:07) The Boston Celtics halcyon days of the 1980’s, sandwiched by the 2008 championship team. One of my biggest regrets and confession comes from watching the NBA Finals of that year. You won’t want to miss that.

(26:45) The Pittsburgh Steelers capping off four Super Bowl victories in the 1970’s, to the improbable and historic run to winning Super Bowl XL (which was anti-climatic…you have to hear for yourself) concluding with what I call, ‘The Gift That Keeps On Giving’ as the Steelers win Super Bowl XLIII.

(37:35) My first love, the New York Mets as 1986 is the only season I can hang my hat on, despite a couple of World Series runs that fell short. They did provide a thrill of a lifetime as I look back at where I was and how I was ready to burst into sad tears when there were two outs in the bottom of the 10th in Game 6 of the ‘86 World Series.

I’ll discuss how far they can take their streak, plus go around the league to chime about the Patriots first loss and other storylines throughout Week 9.

The Washington Nationals won their first World Series in historic fashion by winning all four games on the road. I’ll put a nice ribbon on their magic carpet ride, as well as, what the Astros did wrong, particularly in Game 7. I’ll also get into some of the top free agents on the market this off-season. And, of course, my insight on the new Met manager, Carlos Beltran, that you don’t want to miss.

The first podcast of October (Episode 94) will be sure to whet your sports appetite. Here’s what’s on deck:

The MLB postseason has been littered with highly questionable moves by managers when it comes to their starters and bullpen. I’ll discuss why overthinking has ruined some of these playoff games to date. I’ll also delve into these Division Series games in the AL/NL and my experience at Yankee Stadium as I was present for Game 1 vs. Minnesota. My beloved Mets made an unsurprising move as they’ve fired now former skipper, Mickey Callaway. What’s the plan for the front office as they’re looking to make a ‘splash’ in searching for their man to lead this team to the promised land? You know I’ll put in my two cents on this topic.

In fourteen NFL cities this morning, either they're setting up the Super Bowl parade route or ready to draft for the number one pick. But there are two excpetions. I'll explain. I'll also go around the league and assess the damage up in Foxborough as the Steelers no showed vs. the Patriots.

The Mets have put their postseason hopes in the trash after a brutal loss in Washington and losing two out of three vs. Philadelphia. Mickey Callaway may have seen his managerial position go out the window with some very questionable moves this week. I have plenty of ammunition on this and I'll also recap the latest in the AL & NL Wild Card races.

Rafael Nadal has inched closer in his quest to catch Roger Federer for most Mens' Grand Slam titles. Serena Williams has now lost back to back Wimbledon and US Open Finals as she's stuck on 23 Grand Slam victories. Hear my take on both legendary figures and what may lie ahead in 2020 now that the Tennis Slams are done for the year.

Nets On The Brink, Embiid's Clown Act, Celtics Sweep, NBA First Round Snooze. Islanders Waiting, NFL Draft Week, Yankees Surviving, Mets Stumbling

The best sports month of the year never disappoints as I’ll zip through the sports landscape in fast and furious fashion on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Brooklyn Nets have hung tough but have fallen short against the heavily favored Philadelphia 76ers. I’ll revisit their last three games, do they have a shot at bringing this series back to Brooklyn? And I must get into the antics of a one, Joel Embiid, whose postgame comments and in game behavior is starting to wear on me. This is one segment you won’t want to miss out on as I believe this will catch up to him in the long run. I’ll take a look back on how the Celtics had a rough go of it for a four game sweep vs. the Indiana Pacers and breeze through the rest of the NBA playoff brackets as there’s very little drama surrounding the first round of the tournament. The Islanders have secured their first four game sweep of a playoff series since they’ve won the Stanley Cup back in 1983. Up next, is either Washington or Carolina as they Capitals are currently up 3-2 in their series. Will the long layoff help or hurt the Islanders in the second round? I’ll have that, plus a more drama filled postseason on the ice than the hardwood as we have two, and a potential three, Game 7’s on the horizon. The NFL Draft is days away. Both the Jets and Giants have prominent roles as they respectively have the 3rd and 6th picks overall. What will they do? What should they do? I’ll deliver my take on who they should draft as we inch closer to the first round on Thursday. I’ll also share a bit on the upcoming NFL schedules of the locals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns and their FOUR primetime games and much more. The Yankees have suffered another key injury, this time to their best player, Aaron Judge, but the beat goes on as they win five of their last six at home as they embark on a West Coast trip. Will they continue to tread water? Fall deeper in the AL East standings? As for the Mets, they limp home losing four of five and six of ten on their ten game road trip. What are biggest problem for the Amazins’ early season failures? You’ll be surprised at who are some of the culprits as to the Mets stumbling over the past week. Are there reinforcements coming? The Ides of March are here and the sports world is starting to shape up as I have a lot to get into on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Antonio Brown saga in Pittsburgh is finally over, but the aftermath is just beginning. AB strong armed his way off the team, got a new deal and is heading west to Oakland in the process. Who are the winners and losers in this complicated transaction? The NFL year commences on Wednesday with plenty of moves on the docket. I’ll get into some of the major player movements that have taken place and what could be on the horizon throughout the league. The Yankees have a major issue to deal with at the top of their pitching rotation as Luis Severino will be out indefinitely with rotator cuff inflammation. What does this mean for the Bombers moving forward? Is there a trade forthcoming? You’ll get my take on what may happen next for the Yanks as we’re two and a half weeks away from Opening Day. The Knicks continue their quest for finishing with the worst record in the NBA. But they’re making news off the court thanks to their owner, James Dolan. I’ll get into what the latest incident regarding the despised leader of the organization was involved in, and yes, maybe it’s time to SELL THE TEAM as what was directed at him during the end of Saturdays’ Kings-Knicks matchup. The NBA All-Star Weekend is in the books so now we’ll focus on what lies ahead for the rest of this season. Will the Bucks hold the top spot in the East? I’ll share my take on what needs to be done and how this deal may possibly make or break this team for years to come. Also, some thoughts on the NHL as teams will start to buy or sell with the trade deadline a week away, Colin Kaepernick and the NFL have settled and Duke rises back to number one in the country. NFL Week 15 Playoff Picture, Mets Upgrade Roster, NBA News

As we get closer to closing out 2018, the sports world continues to shine as we get into all of what it has to offer on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. NFL Week 15 surely didn’t mirror all of the excitement and drama as it did the week before, but you had thrilling finishes in Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles which impacted playoff implications throughout the league. I’ll recap the meaningful games for teams jockeying for seeding and position in both conferences, including the Steelers slaying the Patriots dragon to keep their lead in the AFC North for another week. I’ll touch on the Jets and Giants as both teams suffer losses as they close out the string in this lost season. The Mets have added a catcher, but not the one that’s been rumored over the past few weeks. I’ll share my thoughts on who the Amazin’s brought in and what could possibly be their next move. NFL's Final Month, MLB Winter Meetings, Heisman Trophy, NBA & NHL News

As winter slowly approaches, the sports scene heats up as I’ll dissect all that’s going on with this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The final quarter of the NFL season has begun and it certainly did not disappoint. Wild finishes in Miami, Oakland and Kansas City were just the start of another wacky Sunday in the NFL. Also, the Jets and Giants were both victorious on the same day in almost two years, with big contributions from their respective first round picks, Sam Darnold and Saquon Barkley. I’ll get into that and everything that took place over the weekend in Week 14 across the league. A Heisman Trophy winner has been crowned in college football. Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray gets the nod, but not without controversy. I’ll reveal what the furor was over what the QB said, and what makes for an interesting matchup with fellow nominee, Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa in the college football playoff on December 29th. The MLB Winter Meetings commence in Las Vegas today. I’ll share what to possibly expect as we may see some big moves take place as the Hot Stove will be sure to cook up a lot of rumors over the next few days. Steelers Sliding, NFL Week 13 Review. NCAA FB Final Four. NY Mets: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. NBA & NHL News

The final month of 2018 starts off with a bang in the world of sports as yours truly has it all covered on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Jets season has reached its’ nadir, squandering a fourth quarter lead en route to their sixth straight loss at Tennessee. Who’s to blame for this recent disaster? Will Sam Darnold play again this year? Is Todd Bowles coaching his way out of NY? Will Gang Green win another game the rest of the way? The Giants almost squandered a 10 point lead with less than two minutes remaining but held on in OT to upset the Bears at home. Is Eli Manning playing his final few games in a Giant uniform? What about Odell Beckham’s comments after he didn’t stretch out for the ball during an onside kick? I’ll get into all of that, AND, the debacle in Pittsburgh as the Steelers gagged a double digit lead in the second half at home on primetime vs. the Chargers. I’ll call out what went wrong, who were the scapegoats and why there’s no chance that the Black and Gold will secure a first round bye. Plus, the rest of the Week 13 slate in the NFL. There was another wild finish to an Alabama-Georgia college football championship, this time for the conference as the Crimson Tide comeback yet again, to break the hearts of the bulldogs 35-28. I’ll delve into the biggest play of the game and set our sights on the final four to determine who’ll play for the National Championship on January 7th. The Mets have put themselves on the back page the past week. I’ll dissect their front office and coaching staff upgrade, the major trade that brought Robinson Cano & Edwin Diaz to NY and look into my crystal ball for a possible not so pleasant immediate future regarding personnel on this current roster. I’ll also touch on some NBA & NHL news and some information regarding my next podcast. Yanks/MLB Postseason Preview, Jets/Giants/NFL Week 4, NHL Preview, College Football

One of the best sports months of the year has arrived. I’m here to usher it in with fast and furious sports talk on the latest edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. When you’re the New York Yankees, it’s all about October. Wednesday night, they’ll host the wild card game in the Bronx vs. the Oakland A’s. You’ll get all of the analysis and breakdown of this do or die matchup as the winner will face the Boston Red Sox. There are also two play-in games in the NL today as we’ll crown division winners in the Central and West. Plus, a playoff preview and World Series prediction on tap with a final word on David Wright, Jacob deGrom and the 2018 Mets. The NFL seasons for the Jets and Giants are slowly slipping away. Gang Green was overmatched in Jacksonville, while the Giants couldn’t muster much against the Saints. You’ll hear what I have to say about both squads (WARNING to Giant fans: It’s not going to be pretty) and roundup all of the crazy action of Week 4 in the NFL, including last nights’ debacle in Pittsburgh. If you think dissecting the Giants isn't going to be a pretty one, wait ‘till you hear what I have to say about the Steelers? Another NHL season is on the horizon.
