JAYREELZ

I'm ready to rock another action packed, fast paced sports podcast party and everyone is invited as Episode #214 is online ready for consumption. On deck:

(5:21) Week 1 of the NFL did not disappoint. I'll discuss the biggest winners (Arizona, Miami) and losers (Green Bay, Buffalo & Tennessee) of the opening week and go through the schedule to see what took place in a wild and crazy start to the season.

(37:16) The wild card pennant races in the AL & NL are heating up, especially with both New York teams right in the middle of it. A hotly contested Subway Series over the weekend was the highlight in there were lots of fireworks coming from Mets SS Francisco Lindor with his bat and mouth. Also, it's time for the Yankees to trade Gary Sanchez and their plight over the last two weeks. Plus, the latest with who's still fighting for a playoff spot and who's fading fast. And a thought on the upcoming ESPN 30 for 30: Once Upon A Time in Queens, a documentary on the 1986 NY Mets.

(58:36) The top story out of college football this past week was how the Oregon Ducks pulled off an upset not a lot of people saw as they beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. Does this mean it's curtains for Ohio State's chances of making it to the college football playoff? I'll get into that and recap some of the better matchups of Saturday, update the latest top ten rankings and look ahead to Week 4.

(1:06:33) The last Grand Slam event of the tennis season was intriguing as we have a teenage winner on the women's side (Emma Radacanu) and her journey to being a champion. But the main story was how Novak Djokovic's quest for immortality was shut down as Daniil Medvedev is your 2021 men's champ. I'll dissect what possibly happened to 'Joker' and how he fell short of winning the tournament, capturing his 21st title which would've been a record and becoming the first player in 52 years to win a calendar Grand Slam.

(1:14:54) Lastly, an update of Evander Holyfield filling in for Oscar de la Hoya in a fight that took place over the weekend. Needless to say, it didn't end up well. Same for Tito Ortiz in his fight with Anderson Silva.

(1:17:30) Of course, there's my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

It may not be official, but summer is starting to fade away in 2021 as Labor Day has arrived. We can't say that for what's taking place throughout the sports universe. New seasons have started or will begin this week as Episode #212 is locked and loaded for your consumption. On deck:

(6:48) In what has been a weird and unpredicatable baseball season, the MLB playoff push goes into overdrive as we're a week into the month of September. How important is it for the Giants to win the division? Will they have what it takes psychologically to go deep in October if they end up hosting the Wild Card Game after leading the NL West all summer long? The NL East is getting interesting as the Braves have come back to the pack. The Phillies and Mets have cut into the divsion lead, but an intriguing week schedule wise could be a true test as they chase Atlanta for the top spot. The Yankees have cooled off after a torrid winning streak. The Mariners have overachieved as they're putting pressure on the teams above them in the AL wild card race. I discuss my over/under win totals as we hit the homestretch and what will Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame speech sound like come Wednesday night in Cooperstown?

(45:15) The NFL season is on the horizon. I'll get into the Week 1 storylines, including the release of Cam Newton in New England. The controversy surrounding vaccinated and unvaccinated players coming out of training camp and into the season. The big games on the schedule for the first week. With my 2021 Preview upcoming on Thursday, I'll share a nugget on who my knockout pool pick will be come Sunday.

(1:01:41) College football's first week had a quite few good matchups, but most did not live up to the hype. Georgia was stout in their win against Clemson. How that stacks up when it comes to the college football playoff down the road? Alabama was unstoppable, Notre Dame had to hang on to win vs. Florida State. #2 seed Oklahoma holds on win while being the 'road' team at home. Those are some of the games I'll discuss and I'll take a look ahead to Week 2.

(1:09:52) The Expendables, ahem, I mean, Lakers are at it again as they bring in ANOTHER reinforcement/mercenary in their quest to keep LeBron James happy for the franchise's 18th championship. The Nets also take a page out of the Expendables, bringing in two players, one who retired suddenly as a member of the team last year (i.e. Lamarcus Aldridge) and one who has lots of postseason experience (Paul Millsap). Plus, the Ben Simmons drama is percolating in Philadelphia as he wants out before the start of the year. Will it happen? Could this be a potential distraction? Who may be involved in trading for the talented, but disgruntled All-Star?

(1:17:20) A couple of NHL notes with a new COVID protocol and the players will participate in the Winter Games next year.

(1:17:56) The US Open tennis tournament has taken an unexpected twist as FIVE major developments have boiled to the surface over the past few days as the #3 men's player (i.e. Stefanos Tsitsipas) has been surprisingly ousted before the quarterfinals. The rise of 18 year old Carlos Alcaraz as he becomes the youngest player in 58 years to make the quarterfinal round. On the woman's side, another player rising in stature is Laylah Fernandez as she defeats both Naomi Osaka AND Angelique Kerber to thrust herself in the conversation to push for a semifinal or finals berth. The #1 women's player won't be around for a title as she gets bounced from the tournament after holding a comfortable lead against Shelby Rogers. I also get into the emotional press conference of Naomi Osaka and how this could be the last we see of her for quite some time. And then Sloane Stephens shares her experience of the hate and vitriol that's spewed on her social media accounts.

(1:33:30) Golfer Patrick Cantlay has won back to back tournaments over the course of eight days. Is this something to cherish or applaud? Or is it because it's not a major, does it not matter? Should we focus in on him being a top level player on the tour?

(1:36:32) Former boxing champion Oscar de la Hoya had an upcoming fight this weekend but had to bow out due to contracting the coronavirus. You won't believe who his replacement is scheduled to be. Evander Holyfield. YES! That Evander Holyfield!

(1:38:25) And of course, I close out with my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

August is about to depart and September is around the corner, but in the moment is my take on all that's going on in sports as Episode #211 has arrived. On deck:

(5:55) The polar opposites of the New York baseball teams as they've made news in the sport this past week. First up, the Yankees just completed a 13 game winning streak, putting themselves in prime position to make the postseason. It does pose the question, do you trust this core (i.e. Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, etc.) to deliver a championship? (17:33) Another rant about the god forsaken team that I root for in the Mets. How analytics ruined a big start by Taijuan Walker, the Javier Baez 'Thumbs Down' fiasco to the fans and there MUST be a complete house cleaning in store from the top on down as this team needs to do some major self-analysis this offseason. Plus, I'll take a look at the MLB playoff landscape as we head into the final month of the season.

(43:00) The NFL season is a week plus upon us. I'll review the over/under win totals for the year. Perhaps I'll give you a peek as to who I may choose come next week. I'll even get into my potential knockout pool pick to start off Week 1. I'll highlight what's going on throughout the league with some news and notes.

(54:04) The college football season is underway. I'll get into the first matchup of note this past weekend, what lies ahead this weekend as the highlight game will take place between #5 Georgia vs. #3 Clemson. I'll preview if there'll be a change at the top of the college football rankings at all throughout the course of the year, the alliance between the PAC-12, ACC & Big Ten and who'll be Heisman hopefuls come December?

(1:02:14) The Association was quiet, but there were a few transactions that took place. The Knicks offered Julius Randle a fair extension for some team flexibility. The new look Lakers add another familiar piece in Rajon Rondo as I'm going to dub them 'The Expendables' after the action movie and its mega cast of action heroes of the past. Is Kevin Garnett's Celtic number worthy of being risen up to the rafters at the TD Garden in Boston?

(1:09:17) Some signings in the NHL, a change in representation for Sabres' Jack Eichel as I've discussed in a recent podcast and a sad, untimely passing of former player, Jimmy Hayes.

(1:13:55) The final major tennis tournament of the year (US Open) with the only storyline being Novak Djokovic's chase for immortality in completing the calendar Grand Slam. Will he do it? Will the pressure mount as he gets closer to winning? What about the women's side as Naomi Osaka returns for her first Slam appearance since the Australian Open.

(1:20:08) Jake Paul is continuing to make his way and name in the world of boxing as he wins a split decision against former MMA fighter, Tyron Woodley. Is this a guy that we're going to have to take seriously?

(1:23:05) A thrilling six hole playoff goes under the radar, because it wasn't a major golf tournament, had Patrick Cantlay winning over Bryson Dechambeau as golf starts to gear up for the Ryder Cup coming soon.

(1:25:01) And closing out with my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

Summer may be starting to slip away, but the sports universe isn’t ready to go off into the sunset just yet. I’ve got you all covered as Episode #210 is fresh off the presses. On deck:

(6:21) All seems to be right in the MLB as the following teams who had slow and sluggish starts and were expected to do big things this year (ATL, LAD & NYY) have all been a part of nine game winning streaks to propel them in great position to participate in the playoffs this October. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera hits his 500th home run of his illustrious career. Who is the next guy in line to hit one of baseball's biggest milestones? MLB is scheduling another 'Field of Dreams' Game next year between the Cubs and Reds. Will it capture the imagination and success the way it did this year? I'll have an up to the minute report on a couple of teams coming on strong in the Wild Card race as the pennant chase heats up with September on the horizon.

(37:41) The NFL preseason will close out this week and there's a lot of promise in NY surrounding #2 overall pick in QB, Zach Wilson. Why his productive training camp may not translate to success in the regular season? Same for Trey Lance in SF as he's looking to stake his claim as the starting QB over Jimmy Garoppolo. Could that possibly happen? My thoughts on HBO's Hard Knocks with the Dallas Cowboys. Plus, a key injury with the Jets (Carl Lawson), a key re-signing in Seattle (Jamal Adams) and two players recovering quickly from injury could be on a practice field this week (Indianapolis QB Carson Wentz and OG Quentin Nelson) and with college football just ten days away, I'll have who AP ranks as the #1 team in the nation. (It comes as no surprise.)

(52:20) The NBA schedule highlights the big news of the week. I'll detail the Christmas Day matchups, as well as, who'll play opening night to tip off the 75th anniversary of the Association. LeBron James not receiving one vote for being the best player in the league? I was shocked to see how low the NBA over/under win totals for the upcoming year were. I have a reason why that you won't want to miss. The Celtics have re-signed a couple of key contributors with their team (Marcus Smart & Robert Williams) Why is the Draymond Green-Kevin Durant squabble from two seasons ago rearing its ugly head today? Was the coach/GM of Golden State to blame as to why Durant didn't re-sign with the Warriors? Also, what's the latest with Ben Simmons's status as a member of the 76ers?

(1:09:54) The Arizona Coyotes will need to look for a new address to play? Will they stay in the state? Is Houston a possible destination? The NHL will adopt the ads on jerseys starting the year after next. The #1 pick of the draft this year will not suit up for Buffalo this year as he'll go back to college to play in his sophomore year. Was it something more than that? (i.e. Jack Eichel situation?) And the passing of NY Ranger great, Rod Gilbert.

(1:15:34) Another major competitor in men's tennis will not participate in a major tournament as Rafael Nadal will sit out with a foot injury. Does this make the road easier for Novak Djokovic to win the historic Grand Slam in a calendar year? Will there be an asterisk next to it if he does win?

(1:18:04) Manny Pacquiao surprisingly loses to an unknown fighter for the welterweight title. Is this the end for legendary boxer?

(1:20:59) Of course, to close the pod, I have my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

Summer has officially arrived. With that, comes the latest installment of all that’s happening in sports as Episode #199 is online and ready for takeoff. On deck:

(5:58) The demise of the top seeds in the East and West (Sixers & Jazz) and the Brooklyn experiment goes up in smoke. The aftermath of what went wrong for those teams, including thoughts on the regression of Sixers Ben Simmons. The collapse of the Jazz and the bitter defeat of the Nets. I’ll also have the ascension of the Clippers (making their first conference final trip), Hawks (the confidence of Trey Young) and Bucks. Also, what is the best possible NBA Finals matchup? There’s been a lot of off the court stuff regarding coaches (NO, WSH & DAL), division with the Mavericks? Suns GM 1 win vs. the Clippers. The Celtics coaching prospects and the trade that sent Kemba Walker to OKC for an old friend.

(46:05) The quest for the Stanley Cup Finals is getting closer. I’ll review both the Islanders-Lightning and Canadiens-Golden Knights series and what are the chances of the Islanders pulling off the upset of the defending Cup champs?

(1:00:38) The crackdown begins in the MLB in regards to pitchers being checked for doctoring baseballs. Will the umpires strictly enforce it? Plus, my thoughts on what baseball should do to change a couple of tweaks in 2020 now that we’re almost back to normal throughout the nation!

(1:16:04) A ruling came down that the US Supreme Court has unanimously decided that student/athletes can be compensated monetarily in Division 1 football and basketball. When will this commence? What will this mean for both sports outside of the field or court?

(1:19:53) A couple of notes from the NFL (i.e. Justin Fields backup plan in CHI, Derek Carr potentially quitting if traded from LV and Cole Beasley’s choice to not get vaccinated.)

(1:22:22) Jon Rahm comes from behind to win his first ever major golf tournament at the US Open over the weekend. I’ll recap that.

(1:26:54) An update on a couple of players who’ll not participate at Wimbledon later this month.

(1:27:28) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

With summer just days away, it’s synonymous with the sports world as it’s blazing a trail with lots to get into. You’ve come to the right place for in-depth analysis and opinions as Episode 198 is primed and ready for takeoff. On deck:

(5:39) The Stanley Cup Playoffs have moved onto the Final Four. The Islanders meet up with a familiar foe as the Tampa Bay Lightning are again, standing in their path to a Cup Final. What do they need to do in order to pull off the upset? I’ll also preview the Canadiens-Golden Knights series as it commences later this evening (Monday 6/14)

(26:15) Not a whole lot of drama in the NBA Playoffs (unless you’re the Brooklyn Nets), but first, the Suns punched their ticket to the Western Conference Finals as they sweep the MVP of the league (Nikola Jokic) and the disappointing Nuggets. I’ll discuss their meteoric rise, Chris Paul’s resurgence, as well as, Donovan Mitchell’s Jazz a couple of wins away from meeting CP3. Is Mitchell the greatest Jazz player ever? EVER?! Is it time to panic if you’re Steve Nash and the Nets? Will there be a James Harden sighting? Will Kyrie Irving return? Can Kevin Durant will his team to the next round? Also, the Sixers are in cruise control, a belated mention on the retirement of Duke’s Coach K and some rumors as to a candidate for the next coaching job of the Celtics.

(50:00) The MLB could be ready for some pitchers getting warned and ejected as the crackdown of pitchers using foreign substances may take place this week. I’ll get into Gerrit Cole’s admission (or lack thereof) on whether he uses something to doctor the ball. Pete Alonso’s factual theory of baseballs being juiced for players in their free agent walk year. Jacob deGrom’s brilliance on display, yet again! The Rays stay hot, the Angels in the AL West mix? The Brewers and Cubs trending north, while the Cards head south. The Giants standing pat in a crowded NL West bunch with the rival Padres and Dodgers.

(1:05:27) Some NFL news comes down the pike as to Deshaun Watson telling a former teammate where he wants to play, Jordan Love getting some major reps with Aaron Rodgers skipping mandatory OTA’s, former NY Giants coach, Jim Fassel passes away and the College Football Playoff devising a plan to extend the format to 12 teams? I have a different plan altogether.

(1:11:02) Novak Djokovic wins the French Open and is halfway to a calendar Grand Slam? Can he do it? Is he already the GOAT?

(1:19:42) On the heels of winning the PGA, Phil Mickelson will ride the momentum to the US Open to shoot for that elusive championship. I’ll preview who may be at the top of the leaderboard and the juicy storyline of the Bryson DeChambeau-Brooks Koepka rivalry.

(1:24:52) Some thoughts on the Denmark soccer player, Christian Eriksen, who collapsed during a Euro 2020 game this past week.

(1:26:02) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Injury Bug/Falcons Flop/NFL WK 2 Winners & Losers. Choking Clippers, Lakers/Heat Final? Stars Aligne
JAYREELZ

On the eve of autumn, I’ll deliver one last sizzling summer podcast as the sports world prepares for another season on Episode 156. On deck:

(3:20) Major injuries, KC’s kicker heroics and the Falcons malfunction highlights my winners and losers for NFL Week 3. I’ll also discuss the Jets need to get rid of Adam Gase. Is the Tua watch on in Miami? Why Tyrod Taylor is the short term answer if you’re Chargers coach, Anthony Lynn and a Steeler recap of their first two games of the year.

(33:52) The choke label may be a harsh one to players and coaches in all sports, but in the NBA, it fits the Clippers well as I dissect their meltdown vs. Denver. I’ll chime in on the Heat-Celtics and Nuggets-Lakers series. Why the Lakers & Heat could be an intriguing matchup?

(50:52) The Dallas Stars are three wins away from their first Cup in 21 years. Will they have what it takes to get by the finesse and firepower of the Lightning? Is Steven Stamkos on the verge of returning to the Tampa Bay lineup? Plus, a recap of the final two games in the Eastern Conference between the Islanders & Lightning. What do the Isles need to do to get their team to the next level?

(56:53) The good and bad of the upcoming playoff bubble scenario and schedule in MLB. An up to the minute review of the AL & NL pennant race as we’re in the final week of the regular season. And my thoughts on the official sale of the Mets to Steve Cohen. While it’s time to celebrate, but I’ll explain why him purchasing the team isn’t a home run as of yet?

(1:17:19) The Big 10 is coming back to college football. What about the PAC-12?

(1:20:10) Bryson DeChambeau is your US Open champion. Why his style of play may be rubbing other players on the Tour the wrong way?

(1:26:56) Of course, I’ll have my Hero and Zero of the Week.

A whirlwind of sports chatter as I navigate the entire landscape for your edification as Episode #155 is set for take off. On deck:

(2:37) The Clippers are on the verge of a monumental collapse. Will they have what it takes to pull it out and make their first ever trip to the Conference Finals? Who’s to blame? The Lakers continue to dominate. The Heat are well rested, getting ready to prepare for a battle tested but weary Celtics team in the Eastern Conference Finals. I’ll preview that series. Also, will Giannis Antetekoumpo sign the supermax and stay in Milwaukee this off-season? And two coaching changes with teams ousted from the bubble in OKC and Houston.

(26:21) The NHL has had an underwhelming postseason to date with close out games expected for Dallas and Tampa Bay as they’re both one win away from going to the Stanley Cup Finals. I’ll map out why this has been a poor Stanley Cup Playoff and the game that the Islanders will ponder during the off-season that will have them kicking themselves in the rear end.

(35:29) I’ll recap Week 1 in the NFL with the winners (ARZ, GB & WSH) and losers (TB, DAL, CLE).

(50:37) I have a word on College Football as a couple of the major conferences kicked off their season.

(52:18) We’re getting into the homestretch of the MLB season. I’ll keep you abreast of the big series this week. Who has the inside track on securing a spot in the postseason and who’s on the outs?

(1:03:48) The US Open tennis tournament concluded in historic fashion as Dominic Thiem rallies from two sets down to win the mens championship. Was it a comeback for the ages? Or a complete choke job on his opponent, Alexander Zverev. On the womens side, Naomi Osaka wins her second US Open title in three years, defeating Victoria Azarenka in three sets.

(1:08:30) As the US Open tennis concludes, I’ll preview the US Open Golf which starts on Thursday. There are a couple of key performers who’ll be out at Winged Foot, but the field is stacked as the second leg of this truncated golf season is up next.

(1:12:20) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

A jam packed sports podcast party on this Labor Day as I zoom through the sports landscape on Episode 153. On deck:

(3:22) The surprising Islanders advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. How did they do it? What about their next opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning? I’ll have plenty of thoughts on this, a prediction and look at what’s happening in the Western Conference.

(25:23) The NBA playoffs are in the second round and the Bucks have been a major story as they survive a sweep at the hands of the Miami Heat. I have an assessment on how to unlock reigning MVP, Giannis Antetekoumpo’s next ‘cheat code’ to take his game to the next level. Also, is this it for coach Mike Budenholzer? Will Kemba Walker step up in this series? What about Russell Westbrook? Rajon Rondo? All of the playoff breakdown from the bubble and will Steve Nash be able to mesh with his new team in Brooklyn?

(43:38) I’ll remember the lives of two great Hall of Famers who have passed in MLB (Tom Seaver & Lou Brock). I’ll discuss the state of the Yankees as they’ve taken a bit of a freefall here in early September, as well as, a lay of the land throughout baseball as we’re three weeks away from the end of the regular season.

(1:01:22) Are you ready for some football? The NFL begins in three days. I’ll review the over/under win totals, go through some of the personnel moves throughout the league as we embark on another season.

(1:11:32) Novak Djokovic’s shocking exit from the US Open as he was disqualified after striking a line judge with the ball. Will the mens champion become an asterisk when it’s all said and done?

(1:15:29) The Kentucky Derby ran on Saturday with an upset over the heavily favored, Tiz The Law. Why this Run for the Roses didn’t get much fanfare and what does it mean for next years race?

(1:17:30) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Closing out the month with gusto as I deliver another action packed, fast paced, sports podcast party on Episode 152. On deck:

(3:09) I’m in a testy mood as I share a roller coaster Sunday with my beloved sports teams.

(4:43) I recap the NBA walkout from Wednesday, led by the Milwaukee Bucks, its impact and why it was only a message and not a statement. NOTE: Check my Instagram page (@thejayreelzpodcast) for a fifteen minute video dissecting the 48 hours after the Bucks decided not to play, with lots of in-depth analysis and instant reaction to what took place in the NBA bubble.

(14:32) A lack of drama and suspense is the theme for the NBA’s first round of the playoffs, but the possibility of a future rivalry (or two) could come out of it. I touch on the Heat-Bucks Conference Semifinal and do the Celtics have what it takes to go deep into the Eastern Conference postseason?

(22:53) Pretty much the same deal in the NHL as all teams are one win away from facing each other in the Conference Finals. The resurging Lightning, the upstart Islanders, the surprising Stars and the odds on favorite Golden Knights are thisclose from moving on.

(29:37) The Padres have become the darling of this years trade deadline as they’ve made some key moves to ensure a trip to October. Are there any other big trades forthcoming? I have to take a look at my beloved Mets as the last couple of days have been brutal, their GM a step above that, but there is some hope for a brighter future ahead. I’ll take a look at the standings as we’re on the eve of September pennant baseball commencing tomorrow.

(48:59) The NFL season is ten days away. There’s a theme that I haven’t heard or read about which is critical to the first few weeks of the upcoming campaign. You won’t want to miss that. Also, the Jaguars complete their teardown and the reconstruction begins!

(55:00) The US Open tennis tournament has arrived. Is there anyone that can beat Novak Djokovic? Who can threaten Naomi Osaka? Can Serena get back to the Grand Slam mountaintop? I’ll preview what the next two weeks will possibly look like as the second Slam of the year is here.

(58:26) Sadly, there are a few tragic and untimely passings to report as former NBA player, Cliff Robinson, famed Georgetown Hoya coach, John Thompson and actor who portrayed Jackie Robinson on screen, Chadwick Boseman have left us.

(1:01:38) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

The 'Not Too High or Too Low' Theme From NFL Week 1, Except...? Steelers 'Not Ready For Primetime',
JAYREELZ

I'm in a feisty, awful sports mood, so hide the women and children, because Episode 90 promises to be full of smoke and fire. On deck:

In fourteen NFL cities this morning, either they're setting up the Super Bowl parade route or ready to draft for the number one pick. But there are two excpetions. I'll explain. I'll also go around the league and assess the damage up in Foxborough as the Steelers no showed vs. the Patriots.

The Mets have put their postseason hopes in the trash after a brutal loss in Washington and losing two out of three vs. Philadelphia. Mickey Callaway may have seen his managerial position go out the window with some very questionable moves this week. I have plenty of ammunition on this and I'll also recap the latest in the AL & NL Wild Card races.

Rafael Nadal has inched closer in his quest to catch Roger Federer for most Mens' Grand Slam titles. Serena Williams has now lost back to back Wimbledon and US Open Finals as she's stuck on 23 Grand Slam victories. Hear my take on both legendary figures and what may lie ahead in 2020 now that the Tennis Slams are done for the year.

Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

September has arrived, new beginnings on the horizon as we sink our teeth into Episode 88 of this latest sports talk party. On deck:

The Mets have fizzled at home where they've been successful, but have thrown their playoff hopes into Flushing Bay. I'll recap the week that was, and analyze if there's still a glimmer of hope? Plus, the AL/NL Wild Card races and the Yankees counting down the days until they secure their first division title in seven years, but shudder at the thought of one of their key players coming back.

Are you ready for some football? We're just days away from the start of the 100th season of the National Football League. I'll catch up on all of the player movement that took place over the weekend. Are the Miami Dolphins tanking? And I'll rehash if we've seen the death of the NFL preseason as we know it.

I'll also chime in on the latest that's going on at the US Open Tennis Tournament, Week 1 of the college football season, and of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

It's time to put the second Sports Dead Zone to rest as Episode 87 is revved up and ready to deliver what the sports universe has to offer. On deck:

The up-to-the-minute breakdown of the AL & NL Wild Card races, including the Mets squandering a chance to get closer to securing the second wild card spot. Also, the Yankees mash in LA as they continue their west coast trip.

Colts QB Andrew Luck has stepped away from game after his sudden retirement on Saturday. There has been a lot of backlash from critics and fans alike. Hear why I think they're crazy and need to keep quiet about Luck walking off into the sunset. I'll share my thoughts about the possible 'death of the NFL preseason' and take a look at the over/under win totals for 2019.

The college football season has kicked off a little earlier than usual, but the full slate begins this weekend. I'll tell you why this collegiate sport compares to recent NBA seasons. That's right. You'll be sure to want to hear this hot take.

Plus a US Open Tennis preview and my Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

The NBA Finals just ended, but the offseason is already proving that it's going to be wild and crazy as Episode 76 will provide the following:

The Anthony Davis trade to the Lakers. Who is the winner and loser of this deal?

Should the Knicks or Nets pursue Kevin Durant? What will the Knicks do on draft night?  Plus, the aftermath of Klay Thompson's injury and the future of the Warriors.

I'll recap the Blues historic Stanley Cup run. Does home ice/court/field matter in sports? The NHL Draft is Friday. Why the Devils and Rangers will be forever linked with who they select come Friday night?

The Yankees trade for another right-handed slugger. Why I disagree with the move? And why wasn't a starting pitcher involved instead?

The Mets bullpen continues to be inflammable. The latest debacle of relief futility, plus, their upcoming season defining road trip to Atlanta, Chicago (Cubs) and Philadelphia.

A recap of Gary Woodland's US Open victory over Brooks Koepka.

My Hero and Zero of the Week.

JAYREELZ

A new NFL season, baseball pennant races heating up and champions old and new at the US Open are the nuts and bolts of this weeks episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Giants got off to a rough start at home vs. Jacksonville, while the Jets...I'll recap both of the locals and take a trip around the league in another crazy week to start off this NFL campaign. The Yankees have gone 3-3 on their west coast trip through Oakland & Seattle. Their final stop is in Minnesota as they take on the lowly Twins before coming home to complete their regular season home schedule starting on Friday. They currently hold a 2.5 game lead for the first wild card spot. Will they have enough to hold onto the top spot? I'll discuss that and check out the rest of the MLB pennant race landscape as we're down to the final three weeks of the season. I'll also take a look at the road to the mens & womens champions at the US Open this past weekend. Novak Djokovic wins his third title, while 20 year old Naomi Osaka wins her first amidst some controversy surrounding her opponent, Serena Williams. You'll get my thoughts on that and much more on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 29)

September ushers in a busy sports month and I'm here to dissect it all on the latest episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Yankees are in the midst of a long west coast trip as they've struggled to gain ground against the division leading Boston Red Sox. Now, the Oakland A's are hot on their tail as they've won the first game of a three game set, which is putting pressure on the Bombers as they maintain the top spot in the wild card race. I'll get into all of the various scenarios regarding the Yankees as they head into the final month of the AL pennant chase. As for the Mets, three things that'll be discussed are as follows. Jacob deGrom's Cy Young candidacy, David Wright's possible return and 1B Peter Alonso not being called up to the big team after a huge year in AAA. Plus, an up to the second recap on the AL & NL pennant races going on in the MLB. I'll take a look back at Week 1 of the college football weekend, where Notre Dame, LSU and Virginia Tech looked dominant in the primetime games the past few nights. Also, an update on the US Open Tennis Tournament as it enters its final week. Where's the NFL talk, you say? Stay tuned as I'll make an announcement on what to expect for my big 2018 NFL season podcast that you won't want to miss. You'll get all of that on this weeks' edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. JAYREELZ

Closing out the month of August in grand style on the latest episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Yankees broke out the brooms in Baltimore as they swept a four game series vs. the Orioles. In the process, they've made strides in the AL East as they're currently six games back (five in the loss column) of the first place Boston Red Sox. Can the Yankees continue to climb in the standings and catch their archrivals? I'll break down their chances as the Bombers look to inch closer to the top of their division. The Mets have been playing out the string for the last two months, but there are a couple of developing storylines to look out for. Is Jeff McNeil the second baseman of the future? Will Zack Wheeler continue his dominance over the course of the final five weeks of the season? Is the front office 'sold' on these two players? You'll get my thoughts on this and the rest of the MLB landscape as the pennant races heat up as we approach September. I'll also take a look at both the Jets and Giants as they head into their preseason finales on Thursday. Is it a lock that Sam Darnold has won the starting job as Jets QB? Will Saquon Barkley be ready for the season opener against Jacksonville? Those questions and much more about what's taking place throughout the NFL Training Camps. Plus, tennis's final major of the year, the US Open, Urban Meyer's suspension and college football kicks off this weekend. Lots to get into on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast.
