We’re precisely a week away from the unofficial beginning of summer. Can you believe it? But we’re seconds away from the best sports podcast that covers EVERYTHING, that’s right, I said it. Why? Add Winnipeg to the list of teams that won the President’s Trophy without capturing a title as they lose in six to Dallas. And the Capitals fall way short of the Cup Finals after losing to the Hurricanes in five. I’ll preview Panthers-Hurricanes & Oilers-Stars and what Final would be the most attractive?

(54:59) Juan Soto’s return to The Bronx was forgetful as the Mets lose two out of three to the Yankees. The shocking Twins 13 game winning streak, which was snapped yesterday in Milwaukee. How about the Angels sweeping the Dodgers in LA? I’ll see what else is happening throughout the sport as Memorial Day looms next week.

(1:10:10) 49ers QB Brock Purdy signs a five year, $265 million dollar deal to stay in San Francisco. Is he worth it?

With a handful of days left in the month and a celebration coming at the end of the week, you know I’m excited to share what lies ahead in the sports world and the podcast, so thanks for stopping by to consume it all as the latest podcast is here! On deck:

(6:42) I’m pumped to share and remind everyone about the seventh anniversary of the podcast this Saturday, which will be a LIVESTREAM on YouTube. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for more information as we get closer to March 1st.

(7:12) It was a big week for the NHL with the success of the 4 Nations Face-Off I’m sure it was more than what the commissioner could’ve ever expected. Will there be any carryover as the season has resumed? Alex Ovechkin is now a bakers dozen away from passing Wayne Gretzky on the all time goal scoring list. Will he do it before the season is over? It’s time to dissect the Wild Card races in both the East and West. And with the trade deadline just ten days away, it should be a busy week as teams will look for reinforcements as we get to the final third of the season.

(28:19) On the hardwood, you have to be heavily concerned about the NY Knicks. They not only lost, but they were destroyed out of the All-Star Break losing big to Cleveland and Boston on the road. Are they missing a certain ingredient? Are they title worthy? Things aren’t looking up in San Antonio as phenom Victor Wembanyama will sit out the rest of the season with a blood clot, while coach Gregg Popovich won’t return as he’s recovering from a stroke. What will the Sixers do with Joel Embiid? Surgery on his knee? Just rest? The conundrum is that they are STILL in the playoff mix even though they’re 14 games under .500. I’ll see what else is popping in the Association (Luka Doncic ready to take off after his biggest game as a Laker on Saturday night) as things seem to be quiet overall.

(49:06) College basketball is waiting to bask in the month of March, because things have been rather low key over the past few days. Although there were a few upsets (Miss St., Missouri, Texas A&M) and St. John’s win vs. UConn, there isn’t much to discuss.

(52:05) MLB Spring Training has begun. Juan Soto hits a HR in his first at-bat. A sign of things to come for the new Met right fielder? Yankees extend Aaron Boone for two more years, and have also raised the ban on facial hair, but what about hair length? Then you have MLB & ESPN mutually agreeing to part ways after the ’25 season, with three years left on their deal. Where will MLB go next?

(1:00:23) Lastly, the NFL had some news where there was a retirement (Cowboys Zach Martin) and two hirings of note (JAX GM James Gladstone and NO DC Brandon Staley, who reconnects with Kellen Moore)

Christmas may be over, but the Grinch (yours truly) will certainly put plenty of coal in your stocking as this is a rather spicy podcast detailing all that’s transpired in the sports world. On deck:

(6:45) I have to express my displeasure of the NFL ‘cannibalizing’ themselves with the oversaturating of the sport with broadcasts on a million platforms. Games played on multiple days of the week, jamming down these contests down our throats. When is enough, enough? Week 17 is off to a rather brutal start. Other than Beyonce’s halftime performance, the NFL games yesterday were unwatchable! There are questions emanating from all four contestants. Who’s beating the Chiefs? Are the Steelers shrinking to where they won’t be long for the postseason? Is this the Ravens/Lamar Jackson’s year? Can you take the Houston Texans seriously? I’ll go through the rest of the weeks schedule. I’ll make a mention of two big losses in college football regarding personnel who will not play in the Notre Dame-Georgia Sugar Bowl matchup on Wednesday night. Also, former Eagles LB Bill Bergey passed away at the age of 79. CORRECTION: At the 11:00 minute mark, I mentioned Chicago is fighting for a playoff spot. It’s Seattle. My apologies as I got carried away with my commentary throughout the podcast.

(39:00) The NBA had their banner day on Christmas as Victor Wembanyama impresses, Luka Doncic goes down with a calf injury. Are the Sixers out of their early season malaise? What’s going on with the Celtics? The Lakers win a classic as Austin Reaves saves the day with a triple double and game clinching layup. Off the court, Heat guard Jimmy Butler prefers to leave Miami for greener pastures. Where will he possibly end up? And is it possible that Wembanyama could be the face of the NBA down the road?

(50:43) On the ice, the NHL has taken a few days off due to the holiday, which the Rangers have seem to be on an extended one, considering how they’ve played in the last month and change. Is another shakeup in order? The Sabres snap their 13 game losing streak in resounding fashion vs. the Islanders Monday, which segues to a diatribe on my favorite hockey team. Kudos to Sidney Crosby tying Mario Lemieux on the all time assist category in the league’s history.

(58:31) The MLB Hot Stove may cool off here, unless something sparks up over the last week of 2024. With Corbin Burnes, Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman and the like still available, could a transaction take place? If not now, when? I’ll part with thoughts on Walker Buehler signing with the Red Sox and why the Mets did not have any interest? And can they sign lefty reliever Tanner Scott to shore up their bullpen?

One more week before we turn the calendar to the penultimate month of 2024, but not before a few more podcasts, starting with this one coming right at ya. On deck:

(6:25) We’re just one day away from an epic World Series matchup between two old rivals. Yankees vs. Dodgers. I’ll unpack how this could affect the sports landscape from a viewing perspective. A history lesson between the two franchises, with analysis and complete breakdown on what we could possibly expect over the course of a long series. Also, how this Fall Classic will affect my upcoming winter? I’d be remiss if I didn’t discuss the passing on Dodgers legend, Fernando Valenzuela. And how a certain popular ESPN program DID NOT spend a second on this? What are the Tampa Bay Rays going to do about playing games at home in 2025, considering the damage to the roof of Tropicana Field due to Hurricane Helene?

(46:12) Are the Baltimore Ravens the NFL’s best after seven weeks? Their record may not indicate that, but their recent play sure does. The Chiefs, who are the last undefeated team in the sport, acquires former All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins. Does he push them over the top? There were a few other trades that the Seahawks & Texans shored up their defense. Alvin Kamara gets an extension by the Saints. I’m sure they’ll be teams looking to secure wideouts in Tampa Bay, San Francisco, among others. I’ll take a peek at the Week 8 schedule, which at first glance, is so-so.

(57:15) College football has a few solid games on the docket (Missouri-Alabama, Notre Dame-Navy, LSU-Texas A&M) that I’ll keep an eye on as Week 9 closes out October.

(59:41) The NBA season has begun. The defending champion Celtics shot the lights out of the basketball to tie a record for three pointers made in a game. What they did to try to break the record was flat-out embarrassing! Then you have the LeBron James making history again, this time playing with his son Bronny to become the first father-son duo to play in a regular season game. Was this storyline blown out of proportion?

(1:06:27) As for what’s happening on the ice, it’s been low key as the Nashville Predators finally get off the deck with their first win of the year. We’re still waiting for San Jose to do the same. There’s a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight between the red hot Rangers and defending Cup Champion Panthers.

(6:00) The Boston Celtics are NBA Champs! I’ll chronicle the road to Banner 18, the relief of finally reaching the pinnacle as a diehard fan (I know Knick fans, Sixer fans, and others who haven’t won a title. Just let me live. Haha!) detailing the exploits of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, coach Joe Mazzulla, Brad Stevens as they punctuate their season with a championship. Could this be a situation where they can go back to back? What about a dynasty? I’ll share my thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks run to the Finals and if they can get back there next year in a loaded Western Conference? In other news, what’s gotten into the Detroit Pistons management to wait two months to fire head coach, Monty Williams AND owe him 65 million dollars in the process. And Pascal Siakam re-signs with Indiana on a 4 year/$189 million dollar deal. Can they make another deep playoff run in the East for years to come?

(32:45) The Stanley Cup Finals has some drama as the Edmonton Oilers have won the last two games after losing the first three, where Game 6 will be in their building to see if they can do the unthinkable. Can they even the series after being down 0-3 and push this to a decisive seventh game?

(39:48) MLB has lost a legend and icon. Willie Mays passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday. I’ll detail how much he meant to baseball, the flair and pizzazz he brought to the sport and the lasting impact he had long after his playing days. In light of his death, there’ll be a game in Birmingham, AL tonight (where ironically Mays played and was from) between the Giants-Cardinals, honoring the Negro Leagues. I’ll take a look at some injuries that the Yankees have sustained (Anthony Rizzo & Aaron Judge) and the return of reigning AL Cy Young award winner, Gerrit Cole. The end of the Grimace winning streak (Oh boy!) by the Mets and series to anticipate this weekend with Braves-Yankees being the headliner.

Summer is officially days away, but the latest podcast is right now as I’ve got plenty to ramble about when it comes to what’s going on in sports. On deck:

(2:50) I would’ve been remiss if I didn’t start the podcast by not acknowledging the woman who gave birth to me as it’s her birthday today. So I had to kick off the podcast sending her a birthday wish!

(3:39) There was a thrilling end to the third Grand Slam of golf this year as we have to ask ourselves, did Bryson Dechambeau win the US Open? Or did Rory McIlroy lose it? I’ll breakdown those final few holes that went awry for McIlroy and the epic shot by Dechambeau which won him his second Open in five years.

(22:10) Sweeps were averted in the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals, but there are some scary similarities between the Dallas Mavericks and Edmonton Oilers, who avoided getting swept with resounding Game 4 wins. Does that bode well for both teams going into buildings ready to celebrate championships? I’ll also talk about Charles Barkley retiring from TNT after next year. And what will the new Utah hockey team be called starting this fall?

(43:29) Baseball had some interesting storylines over the past few days. The Orioles took two of three against the Phillies. Some key injuries to contenders (O’s pitcher Kyle Bradish, Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto & INF Mookie Betts) Seattle’s sweep over Texas. An umpire under investigation for gambling and some big series this week, headlined by Orioles-Yankees and Mariners-Guardians.

(58:40) Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is the latest quarterback to get paid matching Joe Burrow’s contract of $275 million dollars. Is he worth it? Is this a case of what the market price for a QB in 2024?

I complete the trifecta of podcasts this week as I delve into all of the latest that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(4:00) I have to do some housekeeping before I begin, shouting out my sister-in-law’s birthday. A recent conversation with ESPN/FOX Sports sideline reporter, Kacy Standohar that was released yesterday. Also, a vlog that was put up on the YouTube channel (@JAYREELZ) as you’ll get my perspective of ‘new media’ which is what I’ve been a part of over the past two plus decades.

(6:26) The Boston Celtics are one win away from winning their first championship since 2008 as they’ve taken a 3-0 Finals lead with a win in Dallas last night. Will they end up with a sweep? Or will the Dallas Mavericks show some pride and extend the series back to Boston for a Game 5 Monday night? I have to pay respect to one of the biggest figures in NBA history as Jerry West, The Logo, passed away yesterday at the age of 86. I’ll chronicle his basketball life as it’s one of the greatest that we’ve ever witnessed. Then you have UCONN coach Danny Hurley spurning the Lakers offer to be head coach. Did the Lakers front office come up small here? What could’ve been the reason why they weren’t able to procure his services? In what direction will they go now?

(31:02) It’s possible that the Stanley Cup Finals could follow the same blueprint of the NBA Finals as the home team is up 2-0, going on the road to see if they can take a commanding series lead. That’s what’s in front of the Florida Panthers as they head up to Edmonton. Could the Oilers get a critical Game 3 to get themselves back into this Cup Final?

(36:36) As a huge baseball fan, I think I’ve found out that the Kansas City Royals are pretenders as they’ve been beaten up by the Yankees over the past three days. Can they save face and salvage the series today? What’s going on in Atlanta as the Braves have hit the skids recently? I’ll peek at the schedule this weekend, where you have an ENORMOUS series in Baltimore when the NL leading Phillies come to town.

(48:10) The third golf major of the year is underway as the US Open will be in our consciousness over the next four days. Or will the Celtics be one win away from back to back sweeps in the postseason? Also, is UCONN coach Dan Hurley going to announce whether or not he’ll be the next coach of the LA Lakers?

(24:01) The Florida Panthers have drawn first blood in the Stanley Cup Finals shutting out the high octane Edmonton Oilers offense, 3-0 in Game 1. I’ll explain how tonight’s Game 2 is a must for the Oilers if they have any chance of winning the Cup Final?

(30:04) A playoff atmosphere was in the Bronx over the weekend as the Dodgers visited the Yankees in a possible World Series preview. Why I thought and made this three game set a big deal? I’ll touch on the London Series between the Mets-Phillies. I’ll peek at the upcoming schedule this week as the Yankees visit Kansas City for four games starting tonight. The struggling Braves will go to Baltimore, while the Phillies visit Boston as there are plenty of interleague games this week. I’ll chime in with my over/under win totals to date which look very average at this point.

(46:33) Carlos Alcaraz is your French Open winner, coming from behind in both the semifinal and final to win his third major tournament. On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek won her third straight and fourth in five years at Roland Garros to show why she’s the number one women’s player in the world. How will she fare at Wimbledon next month?

(51:37) The Belmont Stakes had Dornoch win the final leg of horse racing’s third major race of the last six weeks.

(53:12) Scottie Scheffler won at The Memorial yesterday, (his fifth win on the Tour this year) with the US Open set to tee off on Thursday. Is he primed to win another major?

NBA & Stanley Cup Finals Preview BONANZA! Lakers Lure UCONN Coach? Dodgers-Yankees Showdown In The Bronx. Novak Withdraws From French/Swiatek Dominant. RIP Larry Allen. Belmont 'NO' Stakes

With the Finals on the horizon for both the NBA & NHL, I’m just getting started to discuss that and ALL that’s happening in sports in a jam packed podcast. On deck:

(4:15) The NBA Finals commences tonight. Boston is looking for Banner 18, after coming up short two years ago. While Dallas and their two headed monster of a backcourt (Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving) are chomping at the bit to bring a title back to Dallas. I’ll have a complete breakdown and predict who’ll hoist the Lawrence O’Brien Trophy when it’s all said and done. Some breaking news coming out of LA has the Lakers making a massive push to lure UConn coach Danny Hurley to Hollywood. Could he possibly take the leap from college to the pros?

(30:54) On Saturday night, hockey will have the sports stage as the Stanley Cup Finals will drop the puck in Game 1 between the Edmonton Oilers-Florida Panthers. I’ll tap in with analysis on what the Panthers will do to slow down Connor McDavid & co. And what will the Oilers deploy to attack the defensive schemes of the Panthers? Could this be a long series? Short series?

(41:27) MLB has had an interesting week with some solid matchups that have been anything but (MIL-PHI, KC-CLE) but I and a bunch of baseball/sports fans are looking forward to the heavyweight matchup in the Bronx this weekend between the LA Dodgers-NY Yankees. I’ll go through the history of this rivalry dating back to the days where the Dodgers played in Brooklyn. There’s also a London Series taking place on Saturday & Sunday as the NY Mets-Philadelphia will face off against one another.

(55:47) Novak Djokovic had to withdraw from the French Open due to a knee injury. Is it set for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to secure their first ever French title? On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek is seeking her third straight and four out of five after disposing of Coco Gauff in the semifinals in straight sets.

(1:00:13) Some sad news in the world of the NFL as all time great, Hall of Fame guard Larry Allen passed away on Monday at the age of 52. Christian McCaffrey gets a two year extension through 2027. What about CeeDee Lamb? He’s searching a big payday, but stayed away from OTA’s this week. Will they meet eye to eye before kickoff in September?

(1:06:22) The Belmont Stakes will conclude the horse racing season this Saturday as Derby winner Mystik Dan and Preakness champ Seize the Gray will go up against favorite Sierra Leone up in Saratoga, NY and not Belmont Park.

Wrapping up another month of high octane sports talk and a rant you won’t wanna miss as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(4:10) One team has punched their ticket to the NBA Finals (Boston Celtics). We’re still waiting for the other as the Minnesota Timberwolves kept their season alive with a Game 4 win in Dallas? Will the T-wolves extend the series to six? Dare I say, seven games? I’ll recap the Celtics Game 4 win over Indiana as they’ll have a ten day layoff before the start of the Finals next Thursday.

(19:15) The Stanley Cup Conference Finals have a lot of juice as both series are even at two games apiece. First up, the Panthers clawed back to even the series with a pivotal Game 5 at MSG tonight. Who’ll end up as the East Champs as this could end up being a classic Final? Out West, the Edmonton Oilers continue their unpredictable march as they lost Game 3 after being up 2-0 in the first period. In Game 4, the Oilers came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the series. What can we possibly expect from a team that is a chameleon from one game to the next? Could it go seven games?

(30:37) MLB has implemented the statistics from the Negro Leagues to be a part of baseball moving forward. Why I think that was the right thing for the sport to do? I’ll get into another strange interference call in last night’s Yankees-Angels game. And I’ll continue my assault from Monday’s podcast to put to rest the 2024 New York Mets. Who’s at fault? What do I think the front office, ownership should do to this underachieving, embarrassing team? It’s a rant that comes straight from the heart and gut being a diehard Met fan.

(55:01) #1 women’s player Iga Światek survived a scare from Naomi Osaka in the second round of the French Open as she came back from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to win 7-5. Was it fair for Osaka to meet Swiatek this early in the tournament?

(57:29) There’s a UFC lightweight championship at stake on Saturday night as Dustin Poirier will go up against Islam Makhachev. Is there a Poirier-Conor McGregor bout somewhere down the road?

As we remember our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day, I’ll share with you the latest podcast detailing all of what’s happening in sports. On deck:

(4:13) The NBA is facing a big time conundrum. Both conference finals are one win away from punching their tickets to a Final. The issue is if both series conclude over the next 30 something hours from now, there will be nine days between the end of Dallas-Minnesota and Game 1 of the NBA Finals. What can the league do about that? I’ll get into how both the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks have gotten to this point. What does this mean for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Indiana Pacers? Do they have at least one big time game in them to extend these series? Also, why did the Cleveland Cavaliers fire coach JB Bickerstaff?

(24:52) The New York Rangers have rebounded after being shut out in Game 1 with two overtime wins over the Florida Panthers to take a 2-1 series lead. How will the Panthers respond to two tough defeats? The Dallas Stars have evened their series vs. the Edmonton Oilers after dropping Game 1 in double OT. Will the Stars continue their road dominance? What about the Oilers taking advantage of home ice? Off the ice, the Devils hired former Maple Leafs coach, Sheldon Keefe to man the bench over the next few years. Was that a surprise?

(33:30) As we approach the first barometer of the baseball season, there are only FIVE teams that can win a World Series. Baltimore, NY Yankees, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Los Angeles Dodgers. I’ll separate a lot of the pretenders and explain why these teams won’t be a part of the Fall Classic in October or even win it? NOTE: It was during this segment that I read the news of NBA great, Bill Walton had passed away due to cancer at 71. I spent a few minutes discussing his legacy and career. I had to unpack the Mets as being a team that’s a pretender for 2024. I’m not ready to bury them completely, but the dirt has already been thrown on them.

(51:34) Rafael Nadal made his return to a surface that he’s no doubt been the best player ever on it. The clay courts of Roland Garros at the French Open. He went in as a wild card (unseeded) and faced a formidable opponent in Alexander Zverev. He lost in the first round in straight sets. Could this be the end of Rafa as we know it?

(56:12) Josef Newgarden is your Indianapolis 500 winner for the second straight year. That hasn’t been done in 22 years. There was a little controversy surrounding a cheating scandal regarding a race strategist. Will there be any consequences over such a thing?

(58:05) I wrap up with some very sad news in golf as Grayson Murray, who had two wins on the PGA Tour, took his own life over the weekend at the age of 30.

The unofficial beginning of summer is on the horizon! And so is the latest podcast, covering ALL that’s happening in the world of sports. On deck:

(5:04) After spending a moment taking a peek at what lies ahead over the weekend in sports, the NBA is front and center as both Game 1’s in the Conference Finals are in the books. The Dallas Mavericks take the home court away from the Minnesota Timberwolves and give them something to think about heading into Game 2. Will the T’wolves respond? As for the East, the Boston Celtics stole Game 1. Or did the Indiana Pacers give it away? You can say a bit of both as the Celtics are thankful to get the first game of the series out of the way. How will this series unfold after a crushing Game 1 loss for the Pacers?

(19:15) On the ice, Game 1 of the Western Conference commences this evening as the Edmonton Oilers hung on to beat the Vancouver Canucks in a Game 7 for the right to play the Dallas Stars. I’ll preview who’ll come out of the conference as the Stars have been stout, but have had some lapses so far this postseason and the Oilers have been up and down, but survived two rounds. In the East, the Florida Panthers drew first blood against the Rangers at MSG to steal home ice from the top seeded Broadway Blueshirts. This is the beginning of, I think, will be a wild and hotly contested series.

(32:14) How about the high flying Fightin’ Philadelphia Phillies? They have the best record after 50 games since the 2001 Seattle Mariners. Are they THAT good? I’ll also show some love to the Kansas City Royals as they’re off to their best start as well. Will the continue to keep this up? I’ll survey the baseball landscape as we get set for a holiday weekend on the diamond.

(47:36) The second Grand Slam on the tennis calendar is approaching as the French Open is just days away. The two big storylines are as follows. Will Rafael Nadal play on his favorite surface? And will anyone beat back to back French Open champion, Iga Swiatek?

(53:55) With the rage of many people on top of Formula 1 racing, why is the Indianapolis 500 not getting any love? As the historically popular race is set for this coming Sunday.
